I can highly recommend this mod since it is a complete transformation from the original. The mod its self is Russian, but the sound files that countain Russian voice acting can be deleted, so that the game is in the language of your choice (although you will be missing the voices of the mod's NPCs, you will have to delete the said files since they also override the original Gothic2 voices, but that shouldn't be a problem since there's subtitles). As for the other available languages, there is Polish and of course Russian (at least as far as I know, there might be more, but I haven't checked).

I have yet to try the German translation since I have my game in German. Returning 2.0 is available in English (some translations won't be 100% accurate, for example a Spell Scroll is translated "Scrolls Spell", the Sleeper is refered to as "Sleeping") but overall the english translation is not terrible, and it is understandable with the minor mistakes. If this fails just re-install v17.1 and everything should work as intended.Įnjoy playing the game via Steam with playing hours! If the program asks for an update (currently v17.4) you could opt to update, and if you receive "Failed to find GD3D11 systemfiles! -", what you need to do is to copy the D3D11 folder from Gothic II/sytem to Gothic II root folder. The game will launch via Steam and count your playtime as well, but a "Failed to check game/file version" error might/will pop up. But this has to be done every time launching the game.įIX: So, if anyone else has this problem, just reinstall GD3D11 (v17.1) and you should be fine. exe files back to their original names -> Launch. BUT is it possible to have the mod and GD3D11 installed and still run through Steam? It is possible to rename Gothic2.exe to something -> renaming GothicStarter.exe to Gothic2.exe -> Launching the game via Steam -> while the launcher is open, do not click play, just rename the.

(and yes, I have disabled Steam Overlay, that didn't do the trick), just so I can see the "counted/played hours" on Steam.ĮDIT: Uninstalling GD3D11 apparently fixes this problem and the game is able to start as intended via Steam. I am wondering if it is possible to start the game via Steam.

The issue doesn't happen if I start the game from its folder or via the Returning shortcut on the desktop (the targeted. Additionally I checked that I have the right System-pack since I installed Returning 2.0 (ver.0066). So, I have followed the instructions on how to install all the necessary software in order to run Gothic 2.
